Obviously, you misinterpreted what I was saying. These oil fields are not any more difficult to extract the oil from compared to previous oil fields. The only reason why these fields have not been discovered is because of their location. I think you're assuming that these fields had not been noted previously because they were undetected by older means of oil exploration. I have met and my husband works with both the geologist and geophysicist that discovered the fields. There is nothing geologically prohibitive to extraction in regards to the fields. They skipped discovery because nobody had bothered to look there before. Neither is there any issue of expenditure based on current economics. Oil companies are scrambling all over themselves to gain some sort of control over the fields. If it wasn't worth the cost, they wouldn't be making the investment.
I hazard that there are probably many other sites like this. Unknown because they were considered not to be there.
