This sort of thing was happening all over in the 60s to early 70s, at least. I know someone at U of Chicago who had been recruited by and joined the CIA. He was studying Arabic at the time. I'd try to check on him but can't rember the last name. I doubt he's been posted to Iraq, as he would be a tad long in the tooth by now. As to the CIA's recruiting at universities, I see nothing wrong with it; no one is being forced to join, and it might just improve intelligence-gathering, which has been pretty woeful lately. As for "spies" at university, my bet is that there is a considerable spy contingent among the thousands of foreign nationals admitted to study in the US each year. One can't stop it entirely; it's merely a hazard of the game.
