It is significant that Shakespeare's authorship of his own plays was first
questioned in the 19th century. Will Shakespeare is definitely *not* a Romantic Byronic type and so, according to Victorian logic, could not possibly be the greatest poet in
the English language. So...they went looking for more *suitable* authors.

What nobody has ever explained is why *anybody* would go to such tremendous lengths to
hide their authorship. Playwriting was *not* declasse, nor are Shakespeare's works politically subversive. There would be absolutely no reason for Bacon, or Oxford or Neville to put another man's name on their works. And certainly no reason to keep up the pretense after all the principles were dead!
