Heh heh,
In my case it was that I studied film and audiovisual communications (one of those all in nothing 'careers') so I was overdosed in television. Also, I worked in the tv backstages, and I didn't like it.
My first decision not to watch tv was triggered by the morbid display of the peruvian media during the terrorism years. It's as if the people had got used to the depressing landscape of windows covered in duct tape, daily explosions around your corner, or the stories of close friends dying. And also to the media displaying very crude images to sell their products (newspapers, news programs). Damn, it made people insensitive to reality.
The next time was more like a personal experiment and it lasted one year. As I said, fantastic experience. It's like a cleansing.
I'm also for good documentaries. Or rent what I want to watch.
