You don't understand who Europe works. Really its a long drawn out legal process. The short of which is that these laws do not go in to effect for a long period of time. Then there is a long drawn out legal process involving challenges in different countries, and appeals (my girlfriend studied law and accountancy at uni, the law sidefocusing on European, the accountancy tax... sadly I had to help her revise... it really helped me sleep). Its only at the later stages of these processes that these things get brought up to public attention.
Seriously so much comes out of Brussles that it would need a news channle to itself.
Also as for you patronising hint. We have media watchdogs. Do you want me to tell you who they are, or can you look that up for yourself?
