I just saw this, and it sent a shiver down my spine. I've visited the UK, and I was a little put off by the profusion of BBC news channels... and the LACK of variety in the perspectives being presented.
Now, we see this:

Brussels is considering regulating areas such as taste and decency, accuracy and impartiality for internet broadcasters. More broadly, it is thinking about relaxing rules governing the frequency and amount of advertising on television.

"Accuracy and impartiality"? We had a law like that in America, called "The Fairness Doctrine". It came down to one side being able to blanket the waves with two versions of the same message... one extreme, one more extreme... yet both in the same political direction. Once it was removed, we realized just how far the messages had been slanted. Until then, the average citizen had no clue what was being unreported in the news.
Freedom of speech means total freedom. This is a very, very frightening development.
Out of curiosity... how many of our EU/UK posters have heard of this?
