This area has a horrific deathtoll for pets like cats and dogs. Most don't live to be older than 2 years old. Apparently, disease is rampant out here. We adopted our little kitten from the local Humane Society. Unfortunately, she grew ill within the first 24 hours and by 3 am, we were really frightened for her. No emergency pet services so we were going to take her in to get checked out the next morning. She was dead by morning. Unfortunately, she wouldn't have made it even if we had had 24 hour emergency services. She had panleukemia, which she had contracted from the shelter itself. I guess they lost every cat and kitten housed there at the time to the disease.
