This, I think, I disagree with...
Not with the tall tale nature of the giants/fairies being based on hyperbole -- I commented on that somewhere in my posts above.
However, I still cannot find a single element that human imagination has 'created' from nothing. All such can, however remotely or sketchily current science allows, be traced to *something*
Giants - we've discussed as above, height differentials, dwarfism's, gigantism's, etc. all easily fuel those. Winged humans? That's a combination, not an invention. Small winged humans? Same - combo, not created wholecloth from nothing.
The following isn't intended to be a comment on religion, it's a comment on human imagination and the source of my current position on imagination...
Taking the ruleset of a belief system, I once queried a believer to confirm that no one but their supreme deity could create anything. When confirmed, I then asked about human imagination - at the time believing imagination was creation of new ideas... Since that time, I've pursued the question on imagination and found... that nothing seems to be created whole cloth from nothing in human imagination.
