I am intrigued by Knight and Lomas's theory about the cause of the floods(cometary impact in the oceans). One thing I have noticed is that there seems to have been not one, but many floods within the last 12,000 years, and multiple explanations for the cause. I would think that if your culture survived a cometary impact flood that from then on you would have an increased need to study the sky for possible clues as to when the next one is coming, our present day astronomers are no exception.
