Hendrik, Very cool diagram. I agree they are a group or set of the same kind, organized within a singular concept. I do not agree that a curve was used to organize them on the basis of the practical ability to execute it and more importantly for what purpose does the curve provide. What was the reason for its use? Why did they design it that way? What determines the arc? Can each pyramidsby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Robert, The imaginary "Giza Diagonal" has no basis, none of the positions for each pyramid could ever be determined by it, everyone who buys into its use immediately forgets to explain how it functions in a practicable way. Though the side lengths of a pyramid have significant merit, perhaps in a MAAT contextual sense, the side lengths of the Giza pyramids were not as importantby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
With all due respect to Ian M., the claim that it 'might be' Imhotep's burial tomb is on par with last years KV's claim which turned out to be a dud, its' extremely speculative and far to early in the process to be making guesses, IMO. I find this statement of his to be the tell all; 'Many archaeologists consider finding Imhotep's tomb as the next great disby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
I have been trying to finish my analysis of G1's so called "queens chamber" so I can post it up here, a lingering question I can't find a difinative answer for regards the use of plaster on the chamber walls and cieling. Obviously over time the SAE/SCA has done work to "patch" walls and cracks here and there, from the looks of it I can see three possibly four differby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
CT- you are correct, my mistake, 558 refers to the "eldest" not the "oldest". Please excuse my approach, I have little experience with the PT's and as a result I sometimes rely on what I can find on the web. I put the thread up to try and find as many artistic representations of Atum from the earliest periods, NK art rarely shows Atum-re as a ram, I am perhaps grabbiby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
CT, Oh, sorry didn't consider you were providing Gregorian dates...did you publish your results? If so I would love to read your work. Best Regards, B.A. Hokomby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
fmetrol, Interesting, I had no idea that the lunar phases had an effect on flora and fauna. Night time was probably the most feared time in Neolithic times...if you have never heard a night time lion kill in person at 100-200 yards distant, sitting in the dark of night, you have not experience real fear. Insects and animals probably still use moon light to hunt, if so the lunar cycles wouldby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Hi Chris, The summer solstice in the year 2570 BC did not occur +/- 2 days around June 26, it occurred exactly on July 15 and the Heliacal rise of Sothis is first seen on July 7th, any earlier and the suns light overpowers the star. Best Regards, B.A. Hokomby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Hi Graham, Accordingly, the oldest calendar system in use today is a intercalated lunar-solar system, the Hebrew calendar, and it began in the year 3761 BCE if I remember correctly. If, for the sake of argument we accept this date it shows that the "levant" people were aware of lunar and solar cycles, why then should we expect the Egyptians to be in the dark? we don't or Iby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Shadow clocks (not sundials) predate "water clocks". The symbols of the months of the egyptian calendar are lunar based, thus prior to using a "civil" or solar calendar system (365 days) a lunar calendar system was used. The earliest reference to a calendric sequence occurs in the PT's and it generally accepted that a 365 day calendar was well in place by the time of theby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Looking for early representations of ATUM (RAM)... PT 558 + PT's on east chamber wall >Unas< refer to Atum, 558 suggests he is the oldest of the gods, any images would be greatly welcomed and your thoughts of ATUM's point of origin if you have any... Pacal, "There is a statute of Khasekhemwy that has an inscription about himm crushing "Northern Enemies". This may refer to rebellions. I find it very hard to believe that Persiban's "change" did not represent some sort of crisis." The inscriptions you are refering to do not tell of crushing Northern enemies, they are numbers next to a bound prisoner, someby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
A point Graham that many overlook, well put. I would like to add there are no historical artifacts that support a 2nd dynasty revolt between upper and lower Egypt, which is a modern convention spun around "the two are happy in him". For a long time people speculated that Djedefre was userped by Khafre and that there was a struggle between these two kings, but that has been proven falsby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Pacal, At the close of the 6th dynasty began the 1st Intermediate period (dyn. 7-11), the evidence associated with the latter period trends towards a long period of unrest and lawlessness, to what degree is anyones guess. Petrie assumed, as well as many today, that the wholesale distruction of icons, statues and names belonging to the tombs and temples of the Old Kingdom was more of a 'pby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Thank you Ritva, My understanding is that there were two phases of creation, the first or the beginning forced by Nun which created the two realms, am I wrong to associate Akeru with this first phase? In the second phase Ptah creates Re by digging a tunnel between the two realms which allowed Re to be re-born every day, it is my assumption that Aker guards the entrances for Ptah's creatiby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Kat, If I recall, I offered earlier in the posts that the 'so-called' tomb robbers may have had authority to dig up the goods and remains by the state, I shouldered this by suggesting that since none of the kings from the first six dynasties have been found in their tombs it may fit that they were collectively placed together in one very secret location out of fear of the unthinkableby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Warwick, Thank you for your modicum on the subject: ...*are part and parcel with the AE experience...and hardly subject to debate by anyone with a modicum of knowledge on the subject Finally someone to put the record straight. *Why else did they need a Divine King to Intercede with the Gods? Interesting response, it was greed and the poor. The suggestion that we need to look at AE to eradicate modern greed and the poor in modern society is not a very strong argument against my earlier suggestion. Difference in motives do not change the crime, or insult to the dead. What droughts and/or starvations took place in the first 6 dynasties, I would love to read about them. Best REgards, B.A. Hokomby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
CT, Thank you for those partial contradictions to my suggestion of "a collective" repository for the royals, of course I was only fishing with the idea as it stands there is just not enough evidence in any direction to substain one position over the other regarding tomb theft in ancient Egypt. In weight though, it seems the conventional wisdom offered for tomb robbers turns its loweby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Hermione, I stand corrected, Petrie Sr. did not invent the Theodelite; I should have said he developed a far more accurate version. Best Regards, B.A. Hokomby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Dave, My understanding is that Petrie's father had invented the Theodolite, it was his intention to survey the Giza pyramids as a landmark for bringing it to market, he died before the expidition. Petrie then decided to go himself to carry out the work, debunking Smyth's views had something to do with it too. I don't think he was financed for the work but was rewarded with endby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Jammer, A few thoughts to consider; The written evidence is far removed from the supposed events, such that they could equally be judged as rumor, literally inconclusive. The wholesale distruction of relics and names within various tombs however demonstrates personal attacks on the individual or cult. Evidence in the form of tunneling does not explain who did it, it may have been done byby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
CT- Thank you for the proper contextual supporting artifacts, it all makes some sense now; Akeru (plural form) most likely was part of the pre-Ptah creation acting as protector/guardian against the evil forces lurking in the darkness of the heavens, existing as part of Nun's creation (sky), where as Aker belongs to earth (Geb) stationed to guard both ends of Ptah's tunnel createdby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Well hello Ritva! Vikings! oh boy, find any Haakansons? Thank you for the information, I was probing for clarification, I made the assumtion of solar via the "akhet" horizon aspect, though your thoughts about entrance and exit of the underworld makes more sense. Morph, All the more reason for you to "knuckle Down" and prove you are right about your theory. I feel that by exposing your approach and/or methodology one post at a time, one drawing at a time here or anywhere else, you are openning the door for critique and will undoubtably attract reaction. Personally, I have not read your material because it is not presented in what I view as aby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Morph, I don't think Jon was pointing out anyone but instead was pointing out the factual context of Petrie's work and the most common distortions they endure. Anyone who does not account for the actual facts, those that are known, is just asking for someone else to slap them down. I understand that Aker as earth god is older than Geb, and that Akeru (plural?) is even older. Can anyone help me find one or two historical referrences (artifacts) or a publication regarding them that support these claims if they are true? My understanding is that Akeru is a two-headed lion icon of solar cult worship (horizon), and that Aker was a transformation of this solar icon to include aby Pistol - Ancient Egypt
Good question Cladking, I have wondered the same thing often. Someone here should have a good answer. I wonder if anyone has ever broke them into chronological 'era' probabilities, i.e. from oldest to youngest, the passage numbers do not correlate in this manner and with 750+ the less informed of us end up scratching our heads.
