Perhaps my characterization of Vyse was a bit harsh, his excavations at giza with the use of explosives on the monuments is what I'm referring to in my statement...

It's hard to describe Vyse as being anything other than a butcher, a militant cock and bull, a man looking for treasure at any cost; Caviglia learned this about him.
Even though doubts have been cast related to the authenticity of Vyse's discovery there's one modern test that would render the issue a moot point, regardless of which side is right or wrong; by radiocarbon dating

I'd say since the internet began... now its seems when I see a travel commercial ...get to see the GREAT PYRAMID... and they never show Khufu's pyramid, it's alway Khafre's pyramid. I think half the planet thinks aliens built the pyramids.

In 2008, on expedition in the western desert, all along the Gilf Kabir mountains you'll find caves with walls and ceilings covered with art etched or painted that date back 7,000 years plus. heading south on the Egyptian side of the mountain range outcrops of massive rocks appear like island, the lower 6-8 ft of the rocks covered with depictions of all the animals living in the ancient savan

The problem with the 'expanded analysis' in my view is; marvel all you wan't and come up with various exotic modern geometric relations and concepts... like the lower leg of a triangle equals 2x the circumference a the largest sphere that fits in the jar ...these relations are not compared against a relatively large collection of contemporary jars bowls or containers. I think this

reflection of a light is different from projection of light. The moon at night is lit by the sun, and of course the amount of light projected from the moon is about 7 percent the lumins of the sun, it will still create shadows. if your looking at an object that can reflect the image of the moon, because of its shine, however small it might be the moon will be a point of light on its surface. phys

It wouldn't matter which pyramid at Giza you applied stellar alignment to, none of them align to any star. People often cite the northern "imperishable stars" as the means by which the Egyptians aligned the pyramids so accurately to the cardinal points (N,S,E,W). The problem with this alignment scheme is; when a telescope is set at the south-east corner of any of the pyramids and d

I think your missing an important context cladking, as you inferred earlier, most of Unas' PT's are significantly older ritual incantations that were etched inside his pyramid tomb walls... you have to consider the earliest context of the king as Horus * Dynasty 0 and Dynasty 1. Horus was a stellar God (R. Kraus 2010), but there was a young Horus and an Old Horus... the old Horus was Ve

Excellent post, downloaded the pdf to read later, scrolling through all the images of different jars I became aware immediately... none of them are incised with patterns, hieroglyphs or images. Beautiful craftsmanship. Spectacular Stone. Given the lug jars, they were fashioned to hang, in fact all but the footed Ovals and flat bottom jars have suspended or hung designs, we should consider these a

My thoughts about the accuracy of the stone vase showcased; Of course it is remarkably perfect, the craftsmanship h

Indeed. The stones you see today nicely stacked around G1-d's pyramid base are not original, however the photographs published in Hawass' paper provides us with a good look at G1-d's smaller size compared to the other three.

there was one other element I forgot to put out there as well... G1-a, b, c, have the same entrance, passage and tomb design... this is not the case with G1-d. a, b, c, passages join the chamber along the east wall, where as d is T- shaped.

Good point, Ahatmose questioned if I had a source for this statement; "Well, Khufu's satellite pyramids (G1-a, b and c) are thought to be the tombs of Khufu's wives (queens)", I prefaced it with 'thought to be'. My link for him was from memory and didn't want to take the time to find Lehner's source(s).

Well, Khufu's satellite pyramids (G1-a, b and c) are thought to be the tombs of Khufu's wives (queens), a chapel/temple for Isis was built against G1-c which might have been Henutsen's tomb, mother of Khafre, I think. (23rd dyn. ?). I would imagine some elite official, that had an ancestral line to Khufu 200+ years after he ruled, could afford a modest pyramid and had the bloodline

I guess I could have made it more clear.... this line of inquiry into G1-d proves the basis of the thread, there are no satisfactory solutions regarding the functional aspect (use, magic) of a pyramid be it huge or very small atop the Giza Plateau. But, to be clear the argument in favor of them as part of a tomb complex is not in dispute, I'm flushing out creative license, the theoretical co

It’s also important to keep in mind the eastern and western mastaba fields separate direct family and descendants on the east, officials, scribes, craftsmen and so on in the western field. Perhaps more important is the ground is carved up like Swiss cheese, there are many reuses atop the plateau. Essentially G1-d has no precedent nor prodigy… it has 15-20 possible theories offered by scholars eac

I would like to comment that this line of discussion was initiated because you suggested that pyramidions do not represent a miniature (scaled version) of the pyramid they were built for, countering my statement that they were (for a smooth sided pyramid), basically quoting M. Lehner. It's difficult to compare any royal pyramid to G1-d as a pyramid with only 3 courses, so I think you need to

I have read both articles, essentially Hawass puts forward the idea that G1-d was a changing room for the king during the sed festival, but uses Djoser's southern mastaba as parallel, skips over all that came before Khufu, like his father and validates it by stating Khufu's pyramid complex was experimental. It's interesting that he writes the King would enter the >>>burial

Here we may disagree, The so called Satellite Pyramid G1-d is so unlike the other three G1a, G1b, G1c... I'm not sure, other than what's in this article, Hawass actually surveyed the site and published his results. other than its location it hasn't any Old Kingdom hallmarks of pyramid construction, in fact I'm not convinced what Hawass is calling a pyramidion is a pyramidion;

The conceptualization (need) of a pyramid originated within the Temple of Heliopolis, and the first attempt to build a pyramid, that we are aware of, was the stepped pyramid complex of Djoser. This establishes that pyramids and their purpose belongs to the Heliopolitian solar cult (Re) mortuary complex. The capstone of a pyramid is in fact a scaled down miniature of the pyramid it's intended

Digging up the buried remains of a dead person is okay so long as they are ancient, though how we've been describing them is not. How about we say Egyptology is racist, digging up people of color. Archaeology is racist. All Universities are racist. Owning a dog is racist. Drinking water in public is racist. Eating meat is racist...eat bugs instead. Now, the use of the word 'Field'
