In 2008, on expedition in the western desert, all along the Gilf Kabir mountains you'll find caves with walls and ceilings covered with art etched or painted that date back 7,000 years plus. heading south on the Egyptian side of the mountain range outcrops of massive rocks appear like island, the lower 6-8 ft of the rocks covered with depictions of all the animals living in the ancient savannah that once existed. small hillocks with wind evaporated stones, brittle as ice and sharp as a razor are found everywhere. random stops to cool the vehicle engines allowed us to walk 20-30 yards in any direction to find stone napping chert, arrow and spear heads... hunting party left overs. at the boundary intersection of Libya, Egypt and Sudan is a massive mountain range called Gebel Uweinet, this was our destination, among many artifacts found the most remarkable were milling stones lying about in what was the remains of an ancient settlement abandoned and forgotten. we photographed and plotted the locations using gps. Egypt has and endless horizon of ancient remains still waiting to be discovered. Carlo Bergman's website exhibits exactly what I have described, worth reading for those with an interest...
