You should take that example to the Bad Astronomy site - I'm sure they would appreciate it.by Hans - Ancient History
Question and request I have seen a number of examples of higher education using Daniken's material as an example of bad science. Does anyone have an actual sample of this type of classroom material? I saw a module a few years ago but was wondering if anyone had a current example? Thanksby Hans - Ancient History
I seem to recall seeing this piece of pottery before and someone pointing out that the nose is caused by the breaking off of a handle, the nose being the top and the bottom connection of the missing piece being the bump on the 'chest'by Hans - Ancient History

Not quite what we were looking for eh? What of the Spanish/French archaeologists who were unable to find anything? Why is that?by Hans - Ancient History
Why aren't your suspected sites under water? Why is Morocco above water? What do you think is the reason behind the Spanish and French Archaeologists not having found evidence of Atlantis in Morocco? they had free reign from 1921 to 1956. As I said, highly unlikely, please present proof of your claim that Berber culture is being treated in this manner. Which historians, by name, do you have this information from?by Hans - Ancient History
Very unlikely, I believe if you check you'll find that finding "berber" relics has not stopped other digs - why just this one? The Arabs are well aware of a civilization before their invasion.by Hans - Ancient History
Lixus was well dug from 1948-1969 with over 20% of the main town being exac. I believe the earliest finds were 7th century BC. How did they miss what must be massive Atlantean ruins? I'm unfamilar with Chellah so I will not comment, perhaps someone else will?by Hans - Ancient History

It may be true that He created the world, but what has He done since then? 7. His cooperative efforts have been quite limited. 8. The scientific community has had a hard time replicating His results. 9. Heby Hans - Coffee Shop
I found the watermark belief came from a deliberately falsified snippet of actual archaeology. The comment was made about a structure in Mesopotamia but the Z word was edited out and replaced by Giza pyramid. I believe that well written, well documented replies to these common types of misbelief would be useful. Most believers have never met an archaeologist- it would be useful to explaiby Hans - Ancient History
Perhaps Maat could look at providing answers for more mundane fringe claims. Some items that I've seen repeatedly used: ...the gypsum mortar used in the pyramids cannot be replicated today ...the Baalbek stones cannot be moved by modern technology ...there is a vast conspiracy of archaeologists to hide the truth ...peer review is designed by them to keep the truth from getting ouby Hans - Ancient History

A question for the members of the board If you were given unlimited funding and could overcome any local political resistence what country or area of the world do you feel is most in need of archaeological exploration - ie it would yield the most interesting new discoveries? My own choice would be Western China and the "-stans".by Hans - Ancient History

Thanks for the excellent answers Bernard ON #2 the Jaguar, I did find one bad photo of it. Would it be correct to say that the Mayans put a beard on a jaguar to show it was wise or that it was godlike? Similar to the western practice of putting a gold disk behind a person head? If not what was the purpose or reasoning behind a beard? Sorry for the all the questions!by Hans - Ancient History
I hope you don't mind my asking some specific questions Which culture in Mesoamerica consider gold to be the tears of the Gods? Was this a universal Mesoamerican belief or one particular to one one of the cultures? Does anyone have a picture or description of a "bearded jaguar" that was unearthed at Templo Mayor in Mexico city in 1790? It is susposely now at the Nationalby Hans - Ancient History

What is the earliest date for this God appearing on a Glyph in Mesoamerica?by Hans - Ancient History
Unfortunately not, just a random similarity I guess! Thanks for the replyby Hans - Ancient History
I've come across the following statement in a fringe book: ..The character of Anubis is synonymous with the Mesoamerican dog-headed god called Xolotl. Xolotl is know as the divine dog and, as with Anubis, has a counterpart, a twin or double: Quetzalcoatl who represents Venus the morning star..... Any comments on what they may be referring to?by Hans - Ancient History
I came across the following statement on another website: ..In 2001 a gigantic half-faced geoglyph was discovered at Caral Peru, dating to about 2500 BC Article in German at the GEO site Have there been any published reports on this find? Is this a natural occurance or is this a constructed geoglyph?by Hans - Ancient History
