I found the watermark belief came from a deliberately falsified snippet of actual archaeology.
The comment was made about a structure in Mesopotamia but the Z word was edited out and replaced by Giza pyramid.
I believe that well written, well documented replies to these common types of misbelief would be useful.
Most believers have never met an archaeologist- it would be useful to explain sources of funding, how tenure and peer review works. It might be nice to also explain that archaeologist know that making a new wonderful find (backed by evidence) will result in all kinds of positive things. Also a discussion of how new ideas are debated with the community.
I believe this would be a valuable resource for dealing with these types of common myths.
Awhile back I was debating the Baalbek stones and received from this site a wonderful piece of info on a 1600 ton piece of rock moved by the Russians in 17th century. That pretty much ended that arguement.
