Hey you got to start at the bottom and work your way up. Frankly I think Kiya was better looking than Ankh. myself. I think Akh. should have dumped Nefertiti and moved Kiya up to chief wife. Maybe that's what really happened in "Year 12" when Nefertiti supposedly vanishes from the record. Now let the fights begin...by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I don't understand your post Kat.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
*LOL* Anything is better than Amarna... (running for cover) Well you didn't run fast enough Ritva. At the next meeting of Amarnaholics Anonymous you're going to be our featured speaker for the evening. The subject will be "Why I'm in denial about being ana amarnaholic: causes and cures ".by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I don't know it looks kind of like Kiya and we definitely have her canopic jars. But that's just a guess. No full statue of Ankh. that I know of. Though if it were Ankh. or her sisters it would be kind of poetic too have them within a stones throw of their brother Tut. I'm not willing to toss this into the Amaran Tar pits yet, but it's certainly inching closer all the time.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Personally, I like to think its Akhenaten's remains. Sorry Pete but as I recall they did an in depth study of the skeleton and decided that he was in his 20's way to young to be Akhenaten and have sired and raised five six or seven daughters plus possibly unknown sons.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Yep I just can't get used to this new fangled metric system. unfortunately the metric tar pits is not a jokeby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Ooops. Sorry as an American I translate the metrics system roughly into the standard system. It said 5 meters so I converted it to 15 feet. Kept the 15 and forgot that the rest of the world is in the metric system.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I know I read that. I'm just wondering who got the distance wrong and which is it 15 meters or 15 kilometers?by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
So give or take a factor of a thousand it's somewhere around Tut's tomb.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I did a machine translation on it. But according to the article it was 15 KILOmeters not 15 Meters. Hopefully they are royals.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
It would be nice if they were "swimming" in gold. But let's be realistic if they are they'll never leave Egypt.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
If this is the missing "amarna cache" then once it's catalogued etc. perhaps it should be sent on an around the world "road trip" to make additional $$$ for the SCA.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I don't know what to think Ritva but this is utterly fascinating. Maybe they ought to start digging in 15 X 15 grids and see what they find. For once I hope that they publish this tomb quickly.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Horemheb did not come from a dunghill. He could not possibly be less than scribal class and was probably better. From what I've read we have no idea where Horemhab came from. I've heard he started out as a foot soldier and went up through the ranks to become a general. And I've heard that he came from a scribal family. And if a commoner was beyond the pale how could a foreby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
How about a pair of wildly kicking legs sticking out of the tar pits?by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
There used to be. But I saw it sinking and tried to rescue it and fell in the tarpit...and will the rest is history.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Horemheb's stela was also written long after the event and intended to write the Amarna incident out of history - and that included both Aye and Ankhes. I don't really see the import of that. Everybody's been rewriting Amarna history for 3500 years starting with the big Kahuna himself Akhenaten. So just exactly are we supposed to do then? Discard everything written 5,10,15 20 yby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
What!!!!!! Ritva hiding under a chair!!!!PUhhlleasse. More like using the chair to hold someone at bay while she tosses off another flash/bang grenade.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
It isn't new I've heard about it for years now. And iirc the Egyptians have refused virtually all help to solve this problem. So when the temples turn into a mountain of sludge 10, 15, 20 years from now...Oh well.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
When compared to the obviously smooth transfer of power after Tut's death - as attested by the tomb painting with Aye presiding over the burial service Horemheb's ascension stela paints a somewhat less rosy picture of the transfer of power. But it's obvious that he (Horemhab) had every intention of being Pharaoh but apparently was pushed to one side by Ay. and the incredby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Hi Ritva "Desroches-Noblecourt suggests some kind of Delta ritual linked to being born." Hmmmm...sounds like another unsupported conjecture. So in answer to my question then there is no mention in the BOD or PT's of using a human fetus for a necromancy (yes using a dead fetus certainly qualifies for necromancy) ceremony. HOWEVER-I would like to say that I don't entirely dby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Yes I'm well aware of all the facts surrounding the letter having gotten in more spitting contests that I can remember over this letter. But never the less there it is in the Hittite annals not just once but also I believe in one of the Hittite plague prayers.I don't see what relevance it has that it was written 25 years after the fact. Everything's written after the fact. So giveby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Errrr....It was during Ay's reign that the notorious "Zannanza affair" occured. When it was over Zannanza was dead, the Hittites invaded Egypt and were repelled by Horemhab, leaving him in place to succeed Ay and Aknkhesenaamun (sp)who more than likely triggered the "Zannanza affair" was herself dead. The Mitannian empire was long gone and the Hittites decline was justby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Thanks Mihos just read the EEF email. Unfortunately the fact that these earlier writers didn't cite primary sources weakens their cases. On the other hand the much maligned Budge would have had the quote in the original cunneiform, too bad he didn't weigh in on the subject AFAIK. I'll be posting my two cents on it shortly on EEF.by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Can you supply the date that this message was posted at EEF?by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
I'm not sure we need DNA testing on this one. What are the chances these embryos are Tutankhamun's own children when you really think about it. We could test the DNA of the embryos to each other and to Tut and to the skeletal remains in Tomb 55. If there's a match then the embryo's would certainly be in the atenist blood line. We have no record of any oher royal personby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
Sue you QUOTEd Three dimensional examination of the images of the left knee and foot revealed that Tutankhamen’s kneecap as well as his left foot was broken, and the embalming liquid had entered spaces within the knee fracture, a clear sign that the pharaoh was mummified when the wounds were still open. UNQUOTE Again they're presupposing that there wasn't any post mortem trauma toby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
..and mention of gold leaf from a sword? More than likely cross contamination he was literally buried in gold and surrounded with it. As usual the most likely possibilities are either ignored or not considered in the first place. If B and H had proposed this they would have been ridiculed (again!).by Rick Baudé - Ancient History
That is the point I've been trying to make over and over and over again. These resins, or what's left of them are still volatile, reactive substances. We've already seen the fragment in Tut's skull physically move with time the resins melt gravity pulls on the fragment a little and slowly but surely over time it changes position. This proves that the resins are still viscouby Rick Baudé - Ancient History
