Horemheb did not come from a dunghill. He could not possibly be less than scribal class and was probably better.
From what I've read we have no idea where Horemhab came from. I've heard he started out as a foot soldier and went up through the ranks to become a general. And I've heard that he came from a scribal family.
And if a commoner was beyond the pale how could a foreigner be any better??? Foreign royalty was no better than Egyptian commoners - if not worse. And given that Ankhes' father and grandfather had both married commoners....
One shool of thought holds that Nefertiti was a non-egyptian royalty.
The real point is there would scarcely have been time for the to and froing described by the Hittites in the seventy days between Tut's death and burial?
You're right. It didn't take place over 70 days but over at least a year maybe two according to the deeds. The HIttites BTW were just as astonished and disbelieving about this incredible offer. Supp who was anything but a fool sent his own man to investigate. Upon his return to Hatti he confirmed everything was true and that Supp. wasn't being lured into a trap. It then that Supp sent Zannanza to Egypt where was killed by the Egyptians.
The Hittites were enemies of Egypt. Offering to share the throne with a 'wretched asiatic' and an enemy makes no sense at all.
Again referring to the Deeds Supp. makes note of the fact that the Egyptians and the Hittites were at peace and were therefore "not enemies". However the documentary evidence in the Deeds, the Hittite plague prayers, and Ay's fragmentary letter to Supp all confirms that as incredible and unbelievabelievable as it sounds it happened. Until somebody comes up with documentary evidence to the contrary it's a fact. If history made "sense" it wouldn't be "history" it would be "logic" and if that were the case nothing would ever go wrong. But since history is "illogical" the most unbelievable things happen and continue to happen which is what makes it so fascinating.
