I tend to agree but it appears (in the absence of more extensive testing) that most of the stone came from the south; one due south and the other in the area of the Sphinx. They obviously used all the (visible) stone sequentially leaving the horizontal banding but that the stone came sequentially from various quarries is likely.

I'm surprised you believe much stone came from off site.

That they built a massive causeway to handle material and supplies might suggest just this as does the apparent lack of sufficient quarrying on site, but I have been guessing the causeway could be kept pretty busy with just casing stone and supplies.

I'm not sure what you mean by "green".

I agree that there is a pre-existing structure here. I suspect it might well have been a pyramid that was built over an older "temple" at the grotto and the real 2nd Sphinx under the NE corner next to that temple.
