Khet – small scarf
Nemes – full striped scarf.
Hedjet – white crown –
Deshet – Red crown
Pschent – combined crown of upper and lower Egypt.
Khepresh – war crown (bronze)
Atef - complex crown with white crown, uraeus and ostrich feathers.
Swty - two feathers and ram horns crown.
Why wear separated crowns after unification?
Rather than merging identities, the Egyptians tended to hybridize them in the way often seen in pagan religious traditions. In that case individual identities are preserved, and the pharaoh may be shown wearing the white crown when the monument is in upper Egypt, and vice versa.
That's my take. My studies are currently focussed on hybridized religious symbolism, and the dual crown of Egypt is a classic example. The word for this is syncretism.
