Hi Hermione,
Performing a search for "Conman Meskhetiu" and allowing across all boards and all timeframes provides results with this thread as well as a few disparate threads. It appears that Joanne posted here on Meskhetiu approximately 17 years ago. Reading through her posts, it appears that they related to a time when she had not yet formed the opinion she presents in Sky Lore that Meskhetiu, amongst other entities has been incorrectly identified to a constellation by 19th century scholars. She instead presents Meskhetiu as a planet, and uses several texts to justify her proposal. Her primary argument appears to be that Meskhetiu performs actions that cannot be attributed to a circumpolar constellation, but could be attributed to a planet - i.e. Meskhetiu "crosses" the sky. Her arguments appear on first pass to make logical sense, but the identification of Meskhetiu to a planet goes against the generally accepted identification of Meskhetiu to the constellation Ursa Major. I think there are a number of logical sequencing errors in Skylore as a whole, but specifically for the identification of Meskhetiu, we should carefully consider her challenge to the generally accepted determination. This is why I re-opened this thread to understand what arguments there are for and against Conman's identification.
Thanks,
Brendan
