Hate to say this, but it would very much seem that professor Sarah Parcak is a very young and very enthusiiastic lady who has let infra-red imagery heat up her little grey cells in a puppyish craving for attention and celebrity fiefdom. I have to agree with Hawass on this one I am afraid.
You cannot just blame 'Production Companies' for such scientific sentationalism. TV is about ratings, and any naive person who imagine otherwise is, well, still naive. The BBC 'Lost Cities' was made with professor Sarah being 'ooohed' and 'aaahed' and (sign) 'wowed' by two yuppy 'presenters' who tickled her ego to a frenzy. That's what has been done to Hawass over the years ending up in the disatrous Chasing Mummies extravaganza and of the good doctor shooting himself in the foot big time. One may not have control over the editing process of a documentary, but one definitely has control of what one says on camera.
Egyptologists need to get real. And let's face it too that there are some Egyptologists who DO go for sentationalism in order to make a name for themselves and make a few extra bucks. I recall only too well Kate Spence's Simultaneous Transit Theory which ended up on the front page of International media as though the secrets of the universe had been found. And being a young, blonde 'Cambridge Professor' certainly helped.
Egyptologists, archaeologists and every academic with an "ist" title were up in arms when the likes of myself, Jogn West, Graham Hancock presented our theories on TV, and called us all sorts of names (including 'Zionist'!) in the media. But when it comes to their own, there is a deafening silence. Hawass has been sentationalising Egyptology to the point of the ridiculous and not a voice was raised against this man by his peers ---well, a few whimpers perhaps.
As long as there are 'professors' and 'doctors' such as Hawass around, then History Channel, Discovery Channel and EVEN the BBC will keep on sentationilising archaeology. TV is about ratings, and this IS their business, not science.
