I recently discovered that the Giza pyramids do indeed depict Orion's Belt, only not in the way supposed by Robert Bauval and Graham Hancock. They had it upside down. Mintaka is actually the Great Pyramid and Alnitak the third pyramid. The pyramids depict Orion lying on his back, representing the dead Osiris.
In this scenario, the pyramids show the stars of Orion's Belt as if reflected by the earth. Thus, looking at Giza from the air shows Orion's Belt as a mirror image.Unlike Bauval's version, North on the ground represents upward in the sky, as would be expected.
The legitmacy of this new theory is supported by a better matching of the stars to the pyramids, including the distance ratios being in the correct order, rather than reversed as in Bauval's version. Anyone can easily confirm that Mintaka is further from Alnilam than is Alnitak, thus, Alnitak cannot represent the Great Pyramid. This theory also does not depend on any particular date, unlike Bauval's. [
