Many here may be aware of the lake in Cameroon that exploded several years back. This would have been on a far smaller scale than what is suggested to have happened at Giza, but is a very similar phenomenon. This lake became supersaturated with carbon dioxide from vulcanic activity in the area. Some precipitating event caused it to "fizz up" which lightened the pressure on deeper water and it fizzed as well. Like a cold water geyser this was a cascade event which resulted in almost the carbon dioxide being emitted under explosive conditions. The gas, being heavier than air, rolled down the valley killing everything and then spread out on flatter terrain killing everything near the ground.
Many hundreds were killed.
