RB: The 'toe star'/single star idea by Legon is a red herring and quite erroneous. I do not know of any Egyptologist or archaeoastronomer who support the 'Sah'/single star. It is obvious that 'Sah' contains several stars and was thought of as a 'striding man'; the Decans lists show this very well, as Otto Neugebauer and Richard Parker demonstrated long ago. The dozens of depictions of 'Sah' as a 'striding man', and on the Senmut and Ramses II astronomical ceilings several stars are clearly shown for 'Sah'...Legon is definitely not the authority on such matters.
SC: With respect, Robert, Alexander Badawy, in a paper describing the stellar destiny of the Pharaoh, referred to Osiris as: 'a kind of Prince among the other stars', 'the most powerful among the stars' and 'Orion [probably beta-Orionis] as the brightest star in the southern sky...' Note: a 'star' not a 'constellation'. I take it then that Badawy is not an 'authority' you wish to quote?
With this in mind then, Robert, who
exactly do you regard as the
authority on such matters since - by your own admission - you seem to have a 'problem' with 'authority' as the snippets below aptly demonstrate:
"...it is well known, however, I am not one who accepts an argument by authority..."

"...But it really isn't a question of this or that authority claiming this or that ... It a question of logic based on observational astronomy..."

"...But like all other subjects, the true answer to a question must not be formulated from this or that scholarly authority or a scholarly consensus. It must be based on evidence that is convincing and arguments that are logical and sustainable..."

But when it suits your case, you have no problem citing 'authority'.
"... Richard Parker, the authority on the Egyptian calendar, equated ‘wp rnpt’ (opener of the year) with ‘prt spdt’ (‘coming forth of Sirius’). There are many ancient texts (Canopus Decree etc..) that support this..."

"...perhaps I can quote you from Mark Lehner’s latest book on the pyramids. Lehner is regarded as one of the highest authority on the Giza pyramids..."

"...In 2003 the Spanish astronomer Juan Antonio Belmonte, a highly accredited world authority on ancient Egyptian astronomy..."

"...There are also the conclusions by the Swiss astronomer Kurt Locher, a highly respected authority in ancient Egyptian constellations..."

You either accept an argument from 'authority' or you don't, Robert. But to say that you don't accept such arguments when clearly you do, smacks of hypocrisy.
