Stuff I've read suggested that it was becoming increasingly dangerous
to strip the casaing blocks off and the need was decreasing so they
simply stopped.

It's diffiicult to get a feel for the amount of stone that fell and the
amount taken off despite this having been so recent. Apparently, though,
there was much more damage to the Great Pyramid than Khafre's Pyramid.

There have been repeated calls to tear down the pyramids in search for
more passages and loot. It's likely that this is the cause of the miss-
ing top.

The grooves in the sides were hidden by the casing stones as evidenced
by the few remaining at the bottom.
