Not only are there no texts from that time saying how it was done but
so far as I can tell there's nothing conclusive about when it was done.
The Menkaure pyramid was almpost certainly built at the time that is
generally accepted since there are direct references.

There's no certainty that these stones were dressed after installation.
The limestone might not have been treated the same as the granite. Both
the large pyramids were almost certainly encased originally and then it
was damaged in an earthquake. Much of it probably fell and much more was
taken down. It seems improbable that the Great Pyramid didn't originally
have a point on top.

There are ancient accounts of the pyramids being visible from as far away
as Lebanon due to their high reflectivity.

These probably looked a great deal different in their day than they appear
now. After a few thousand years anything is likely to appear old. winking smiley
