Yegads. Wouldn't it be a dull, boring, tedious, monotonous world if we all spoke and wrote the same English, much less the same language?
I like to watch dvd's of British TV, and I greatly enjoy noticing the various brogues and dialects, especially when they enhance the work as a brilliant piece of art and social/political satire or commentary. It is kind of amusing, now and then, when a British actor attempts to create an American character with that special, faux accent s/he thinks that Americans have... it's usually way too regular and rarely gets the flexes in tone and pitch that make it American. I've seen a few actors get it, though... and then I'm very impressed.
