> Many of the special features of mankind evolved through the long ages that lead up to
> that period, however the rapid change in lifestyle...

Rapid change in lifestyle is exactly what survival is all about! The one's that cannot adapt quickly to these changes die, along with the prior civilization...

> ...was not matched by a rapid change in evolution - evolution works slowly.

This statement makes no sense to me! I think that you are looking at evolution on a gradual linear basis and that is a big mistake...Changes usually come in bunches...

> So basically, thanks to our evolved brains, we have developed means to survive that
> were not forseen by evolution, yet underneath we still have impulses of social animals.

Say What!? You talk of evolution like it is a thing!!!

Obviously our species has survived many prior ERA/AGE macro cycles but so have many, many other species that do not have the same brain development !!!!!

> The consequences of this are difficult to predict, as civilisation advances into new
> territory every day.

Boggus! No civilization has ever lasted! Are you denying all of the Historical evidence!!!

> Wars and religion are consequences of the underlying pack instincts of humans,
> yet do they provide the best way of advancing mankind?

Unfortunately you cannot change the rules of evolution and it is obvious that the human brains are not developed enough to stop such wars and religion! Whether you like it or not, that is the cold true reality...

> Argument by reason, not force, proportional representation democracy, scienctific
> development, human rights defining morals, are what have replaced religion, and
> are applicable to all humans, not just pack type A or pack type B.

That is nothing more than an "idealistic" view of reality and evolution! In other words, you cannot simply erase millions and millions of years of evolution based on idealistic dreams, or can you!?

Now, I could make the argument both ways, but since you are representing DE here, I am just bringing to your attention the cold facts and the true reality of DE's implications...

> They are the old belief systems stripped of their ritual, brainwashing, and
> superstition.

..which have evolved for millions and millions of years and are imprinted into the DNA! Again, you just cannot have it both ways!!!

> But unless people understand that, they will not appreciate these ideas which
> philosophers have been striving to preserve and improve since the Greeks fought
> off the Persians.

OK, so according to your interpretation of DE theory, a simple (or maybe complex!) understanding of this stuff by all is enough to wipe out the millions and millions of years of evolution!!!

> Civilisation can regress as well as advance - it has happened before.

All prior civilization become extint and this is with 100% certainty (no chance at all!) based on all the Historical evidence which cannot be senied by any scientist here...
