I have lived in the north of England. they are generally chatty and friendly than the "london commuters" (I travel every day to london myself.). initially when i moved to london-commuting-region, I started feeling why everyone is so angry? after some time of living here, when i went to the north for some work, people in the shop found me rude as i was not smiling at them.. then I realised how things have changed... these days whenever I come across someone chatty, I don't miss the chance... sometimes I make sure to smile when the train staff come to check the ticket..
