Fun facts! My Dad & Cernan were good friends. I have autographed pictures of him somewhere. Right there is all the proof anyone needs, right?
Some astronauts became 'different' when they returned. NASA doesn't like this publicized, for obvious reasons. A few became artists/writers. Others became highly religious. A few others were absolutely convinced of various things. Things like, they were being watched by aliens. (Most of this I gleaned from conversations between my parents, BTW, though Dad did eventually tell me some of the problems guys had.)
People are rarely hospitalized for alien abduction stories. You must present a clear & present danger to yourself & others to get hospitalized. By that I mean things like 'suicidal', 'running down the freewaY shooting at trucks', 'wild, naked, uncontrollable attacks on random people/objects'. Unless the aliens forced you to run screaming down the road, it wouldn't be discussed. Note that this doesn't apply to children or the obviously mentally handicapped, whose rights are routinely violated by hospitalization.
The concentration of sites must be in the First World (Egypt, Mesopotamia, China & Mesoamerica excepted). Those sites must be provably ancient. Roman and Greek sites do not count, unless they are in one of the above--eg, Alexandria. The US is ideal, with UK, Canadian, Western Europe & Japan distant seconds. The old Soviet Bloc is also good, but the language barrier means a too-small US audience. Keep it in the Anglosphere, with occasional forays into easy-to-understand places like Yucatan.
Finally, the aliens need to chosen. Grays are well-known and acceptable. Reptoids are also a good choice, though it may be too Icke-y. (yes I did have to). Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Naarn, Gallifreyans et al must be avoided, unless you wish to invite ridicule. Nordics might be a good choice, as they are wise and generally benevolent.
So...when do you want to start?
