People don't become all defensive for no reason you know. Creationism has never been some kind of theistic reconciliation with evolution as people like to think it is. There was never any hope of reconciliation. What you've read
is creationism and what creationists stand for. If scientists are to sympathise in any way, they are giving credence to what you've just read. It is truely sad when you have a relative who thinks that creationism has some weighting not because of its standing, but because of its sheer popularity. There is a perception that it requires an education in biology, compliance to authorities and submission to the rigours of scientific orthodoxy to understand and accept evolution; while on the other hand, a friendly colleague is enough to make one question hundreds of years of scientific study and research. For non-scientists, science is seen as some kind of wizardry, so difficult to comprehend that it may seem intentionally obfuscating. As for creationism, one only has to believe, which is not only easier but emotionally satisfying. I mean, is there any competition?
