I don't know why you see this article as criticism of the US? The UN feared that a quarter of the population would starve before this whole thing started. Many of these people are in remote regions - and a last resort is better than no attempt isn't it? In what way could the US possibly be under criticism for attempting to drop food to people? The aid program has been affected by the Taliban asking aid workers to leave the country not by additional food drops. The US is the largest single contributer to the aid programme, and were feeding these people long before September 11. What criticism is due exactly?
