<HTML>Anthony, no read again. No chariots in the 4th D. The Hyksos had chariots and when the southern Egyptians got chariots too (copying them from the Hyksos), along with swords, they drove the Hyksos out. This was much later than the 4th D. and the Hyksos revolt led to the political center of the country being shifted to the south -- where there are no pyramids and the region is mostly soft sandstone that's easily cut with bronze tools available by then.

I've tried to give you a sketch covering 8000 years ago in Syria -- through to the first stone vessels in Egypt in prehistory -- and on to the first pyramid and then to the 4th D, followed by the later pyramids. Then onto the Hyksos and subsequent founding of Thebes -- with the technology die off gradually going on through all of these social changes and upheavals because 1) lime is finite, 2) southerns in Thebes don't need cement because sandstone is easy to cut and bronze tools came along by the time Thebes was founded.
