<HTML>I don't think the brunt of the argument was meant to point out that Schoch was wrong...
it was meant to point out that 10.5K BC was wrong... and in order to simplify the matter, they threw the baby out with the bathwater.
Mikey, in the same way I would defer to you on many archeological matters, I suggest you defer to Claire on this one. She's probably the most "up to speed" person on Schoch and the PI erosion theory of anybody I know.
I've also found her to be EXTREMELY level-headed, and will throw out a bad theory as soon as it shows up.
Again, I'm a rank amateur here... Claire (although she'll argue this point ad nauseum) is the resident officianado.
These are still VERY open questions, and for them to have been "tossed in" with Graham's theories (and then subsequently "tossed out") really might have been doing them a disservice. I appreciate the way Horizon tried to handle the problem of the debate... but this sentence in particular troubles me...
<b>"It has been argued by Hancock and others that the erosion was caused by heavy rainfall ............. But the erosion argument has not stood up to the scrutiny of geologists."</b>
It really makes it sound like Graham suggested the erosion problem, and professional, reasonable, sane geologists tossed it out.
As I don't know of ANYTHING to suggest that Robert Schoch is UNprofessional, UNreasonable, or INsane, this is probably countable as a misrepresentation of the actual facts.
As I stated below... the producers examined the evidence, then THEY decided GH was wrong, so they built their program around that premise. In doing so, they steamrolled subtleties... like PI erosion.
It's a common human trait. I believe Graham uses it ALL the time to make his case.
What's funny is how loudly the screaming is when "selective evidence" is used AGAINST the LC theory... not just in favor of it.
I see this as "payback" for his Piri Reis "evidence". As long as he sticks to things like that, this type of rebuttal is COMPLETELY fair play.
After all...Chris Hale isn't a "scientist"...
