Vimanas, not Viamas.
When we lived in the Bay Area we used to get an Indian channel that showed a serialized Mahabharata. Between the spectacular costumes, ghastly special effects, and shockingly beautiful men, we were charmed & intrigued. The Vimanas were flying chariots. Krishna (yes, THAT Krishna) was a charioteer.
The Vimanas flew above the battlefield, firing various sparkling projectiles at each other. No nuclear explosions, no mushroom clouds, just guys in flying chariots shooting at each other.
If you really wanted a modern equivalent, you'd have to say helicopters firing rockets at one other.
