One thing to keep in mind is mtDNA Hg A2 (American) is a very ancient hg...perhaps the oldest (or a close runner up to X2a). Paisley Caves have produced coprolites that popped positive for mtDNA Hg A2, and dated to >14kya. All this below the ice sheets.
