You are absolutely correct, no press bomb on the Pericu tribe. However, I wouldn't expect much else if the Pericu had been living in the area for quite some time since we are discussing mtDNA and it was common among some tribes to raid other tribes for women (the Mojaves were famous for that, traveling many hundreds of miles to do so). I would really like to see a yDNA analysis, if possible, but I expect to see Q or Q3 anyway - so no press release for Dr. Gonzalez there either.
Pericu skulls are dolichocephalic and look somewhat unusual. The Oyster Creek, Texas, skull is dolichocephalic and looks very similar to a Pericu. The mtDNA results should at least be interesting. PeƱon Woman's age is 12,755bp +/- 50 and Oyster Creek might exceed that date. It's a wait for the results game right now with initial dating being available as early as one month from now.
The Babisuri Cave site at Baja California Sur is interesting due to the apparent great age of its shell middens. However, there are no human remains. Scroll down:

Still, too much speculation to overturn a paradigm.
