<HTML>Hi Mark,
I think you make an accurate assessment here. And I'd like to add what I believe is an additional related point. Why else are people so likely to be drawn to a "Robin Hood"? Because many "feel" a "spiritual" sensing... one that is still lacking definition from our world of science and its concrete facts based methodology. This nagging spirituality finds an acceptable home with Robin that is not available in much of the academic world (imho). And I'm defining "spiritual sensing" as different from the simplistic "faith based" tapes of the religiously indoctrinated. The spiritual directions touts its "feelings" as proof (despite being as abstract as "I think, therefore I am"). On the other hand the scientific academics do *not* have the luxury to be able to advance their theories without the material proof. Two worlds... two kinds of inspiration... two levels of proof... both needing their own world to remain as is in order to survive. I don't fault either... I only fault those who won't recognize the necessity of the other. So for me, it's never been "Fair or Foul". Instead, it is two halves of the same Earth... one in light, the other in darkness... but both alternating at times as to the light and the darkness. Spirituality is the inspired blueprint, while Science is the building we touch. There will always exist a place where both cannot exist together, but that should not mean we should choose one over the other. My personal viewpoint.
