Well, Don, the pharaohs and kings of the earlier dynasties got to the afterlife too. They did not built as big as Khufu and Khafre, simply because these earlier dynasties developed more primitive pyramids (that's only logical). In fact, Khufu and Khafre could built such big pyramids, because they took advantage/learned from the experience of the architects of the earlier dynasties. The skill was passed through from generation to generation, culminating in the 4th Dynasty super-pyramids G1 and G2. Of course, you first must show interest in true egyptology/AE cultural, architectural development, and then you will notice that there was an obvious evolution from mastaba into the 4th Dynasty and later pyramids.

'Poor Menkaure' ? Well, that could be the correct choice of words. It's very plausible that the size of a pharaoh's pyramid depended on his resources. How rich was Menkaure's reign ? Also, Menkaure's reign was shorter than his father's and grandfather's. This could also be an indication why his tomb was smaller.
And what of the common folk and

They were done for the same reason, to make possible the transition to the afterlife. The AE's lives were dedicated to the afterlife. Of course, the common folk had much smaller tombs, that's only normal, because they had less resources than the pharaoh. And they stood much lower in the hierarchy. But e.g. an official working for the pharaoh could have had a bigger/nicer tomb than a stone-cutter from the workers-village.

Well, add here whatever you wish, but the fact you wrote the silly comment ; 'You mean they felt that the pharaohs and kings of the earlier dynasties did not get to afterlife because they did not have such big tombs', proves you really don't have any clue about AE evolution, culture, religion, evolution in architecture, ... But despite this ignorance, you think you are entitled to draw diagrams into absurdum, diagrams of which you claim they represent geometrical groundplans the AE must have used. You don't even realize/understand that the earlier dynasties had smaller tombs, simply because they were in a more primitive stage of development, hence constrtucted more primitive, smaller tombs.
