I know, I know.... ----> I (=me) know, but many people don't. Those of us who wanted the information found it, because we looked for it. That is a rational approach.

Many people did not want the info, they wanted a confirmation of a dream, so they have a "selective" approach, e.g. they remove the info that is not acceptable to them. We all know that, have been discussing the point for months.

What I am saying is not that you did not do a good job, but... try using the same technique as the opponent ;-) Like: repeat, repeat, repeat, and repeat more... Something trivial, unsophisticated, down to earth but clear. You might have noticed, it functions ;-)

There are large numbers of people who will not simply bother to read complicated technical information, that is why they like Osmanagic's style: they (think that they) can understand it.

Now I am speaking as a journalist, in these occasions I always quote an anecdote about a senior colleague, many years ago: I will spare you the details since it's off topic now, but his golden sentence was "I am FAMOUS because my audience (* tv) understands what I tell them, and I will not risk my popularity because of your precious information". Translation: it doesn't matter if it's b...s...t , provided that is sounds well and let people believe they "understand".

All these years I've been trying to keep the lesson without giving in to the depressing logics ;-)

If the objective is to reach those people, let's see how much of the technique can be used.

In the specific case: you've all seen that the Foundation has absolutely no problem in putting nearly every day nearly the same photos online, again and again, and repeat the same claims without proof, again and again, like a mantra ---> it works! Actually, it is a very sophisticated technique (I'm beginning to believe that someone there must be trained in NLP...).

There's no shame in doing the same: flood the bloody net with geologic pics! Put a lot of meta tags so that everybody will stumble on them, sooner or later.

I would skip the text (a link to pages where the text is is more than enough), just the location. Perhaps one line of geologic definition - linked.

Let the pictures speak by themselves.

Very many of them, from all over the world.

Remember, most people simply do NOT know.

I have three kids at school here, it touches us directly.... :-(

And makes my work very, very complicated on all levels.

But apart from me, knowledge would be the most powerful instrument for people here to defend their own interests, especially in a wild world like this in which, yes, this country is in a very unfortunate position. So it is shameful that they be willingly dis-educated from knowledge.

Yeah... I did not miss that, back then... And you've got a big point there, alas. That was rather careless.

The impression I got from reading all the materials, all these months is the Ms Dowell is rather an emotional person, to put it diplomatically, and that she's been going from one extreme to another.Taking it personally, either in good or bad, cannot really help to keep one's balance, especially in a situation so deteriorated as this one.

Anyway, Dr. Schoch has been sincere in retelling how the whole story went, after all it's his responsibility to have admitted "there was nothing of the kind there", including an automatic self-criticism for having bought into it too easily.

The bit about "armchair archeologists" is a black spot, there to see for all, to quote Lady Machbeth "What's done is done, and cannot be undone...". Or perhaps not, who knows, something more direct like an interview to Dani?
