I would say that the general idea in the Chinese world is that Egypt and Mesopotamia were wayyy ahead of the Chinese, though obviously i can only speak for the Chinese people i know (and what i've heard from the Chinese media). As for the educational misrepresentations and glorifications, i personally have not seen it myself, though, given the widely known and trumpeted "5000 years of history" claim, i wouldn't say it doesn't exist. Note however that this is still 500 years short of the well-known dates for both Egypt and Mesopotamia.
I also think (a personal view) that the current fad in China is to look to the future, as exemplified by the lack of effort in conserving historic buildings. The media, AFAIK, rarely goes on about history anymore, and if they do, it's usually about how the Qing dynasty failed to resist Western Imperialism. We know for example that very few people in China actually endorse Gavin Menzies' ideas for example. This, i can say with a little more confidence, since I have seen Chinese programmes actively debunking his ideas and setting the record straight...
