I have no eartly idea (not being an expert in either), though I would like to note that the non-scholars tend to say that imaged-based symbols "look like Ancient Egyptian" to them. It really doesn't to my eye, but I am untutored in this.
As to the rest, I'm not sure where you're going with this. The article said "earliest 'writing' may have been found" in an area where there are known ancient sites and that is (agreed by many) one of the oldest city sites in China. It's not really surprising that markings of the "this was made by me" or "I own this thing" show up there in pottery. I don't know much about China or ancient Far Eastern civilizations. I could look it up, I suppose, when I have time.
However, the article is interesting, showing that writing develops in many civilizations just at the period when changes in the Earth's climate force people into river valleys and large settlements and cities begin developing. Negotiating social niceities is very different in a group of 1,000 people than it is in a tribe of 75 people.
