<HTML>As far as I can tell, Hancock's claims of libel are groundless. Mr. Stower only offered his (albeit critical) opinion of Hancock's revised Fingerprints on this board. He based his opinion on the fact that the accusations of forgery (found on p. 302 of the original edition) have apparently been republished, unaltered in the body of the text. As long as that assertion is true, there can be no libel because the fact in question is true and true statements are not libellous against public figures. As an author, Mr. Hancock is such a figure.
Furthermore, this message board is based in the United States of America, and is subject to American libel law, not British. In America the truth is never libellous. Hooray for the First Amendment!
Consequently, while I disagree with Mr. Stower's comments because the apparent preface to the new edition supposedly corrects these errors, I believe they cannot be considered libel, and in this Mr. Hancock is wrong.
