If you'll notice, NO "Native American Groups" have expressed ANY sense of being "threatened by the possibility of multiple immigrations from various parts of the world".
I've heard a LOT of White people CLAIM that Native Americans would feel threatened by such a thing, but NOT heard ANY Native Americans express even a trace of such a feeling.
The presumably British author of the article suggests this (but he's NOT exactly likely to know much about NA feelings on the matter). And Gonzalez hints at it.... but she's expressed a degree of hostility towards NA's in the past, saying that Whites were here before Indians & that Penon Woman would thus cause a revision in treaty rights & would affect who gets control over ancient remains from the Americas (then Penon turned out to NOT match Whites as Gonzalez had suggested she would)...... and now she suggests that data from Penon will invalidate the NA claim to have been the first people in the Americas.
To which I respond, quite politely..... BULLSHIT!
There is NOTHING to stop ANYBODY here that long ago from being ancestral to modern Native Americans. And there is no evidence that can prove that an ancient population wasn't ancestral....
I'm my father's son, but I don't have his mtDNA. I'm my mother's son, but I don't have HER father's Y-chromosome (just as MY daughter doesn't carry my Y, and neither of my kids carry MY mtDNA). And I've only a fraction of the DNA carried by any given ancestor of mine (the ONLY potential matches after a few generations, other than mtDNA or Y, are using genefrequencies of entire populations...... and there is NO way anybody will ever have a large enough sample to do that.... ESPECIALLY when admixture with OTHER contemporary local populations is a possibility).
Sigh.... I'll dig up the various craniometric analysis I have relating to Penon Woman & the Pericu, & see if I can arrange to post the figures showing affinities.
