I haven't been to Egypt so i don't know Egypt visually enough to say that they look Egyptian. Based on my limited visual knowledge of Africa and its racial demographics and my personal opinion and perspective of what "black" means, i can offer you the answer that they do indeed look "black"! This is nothing more than a personal opinion, but i will add that i don'

Shame there isn't more information on the site because Phoenician discoveries are very hard to come by. Cadiz was of the principle Phoenician colony in Spain and traditionally one of the oldest in the punic west. The traditional foundation date attributed to it by classical authors is about 1100 bce, hence the claim of it being one of the oldest cities in Europe. To my knowledge, most schola

Well, the nearest university here is still a few miles from my town, whereas before i could access any journal from my computer. I guess it will require getting used to In particular, the JSTOR collections made available a lot of the archaeological studies over the last century, saving me hundreds of pounds on books and a huge amount shelving space, the latter actually being more important....

The destruction of sites is irreversible and tragic, but don't looted goods always make their way back to the archaeologists after a decade or two? After all, artifacts and inscriptions are only valued by those with knowledge of archaeology. Much of the important archaeological material in today's museums were once in the hands of the treasure hunters and private collectors of the 18th

How do members of this board retain that access, or is it simply the case that people not with an institution can not access pee

It seems to me that the Egyptians and people like Manilus simply recognized gradations in skin colour as we do today. However, are there any good reasons to believe that they were "mixed" and not just "lighter" with respect to the "Ethiopians"?

I've often wondered what the scientific culture is like in China, particularly in subjects like archaeology, paleontology and paleoanthropology, which typically generate a lot of political, religious controversy in the west. It's not something i'm familiar with and i don't see many casual discussions on these subjects. Perhaps i should have a little more confidence in the Chin

If the noise is coming from the hard drive and is as irregular as you've described, then it's likely to be a head crash. I have posts on this board describing that particular problem. The following site has noise samples of what a head crash sounds like:
Head crashes are quite serious. It happens when the head comes into contact with the platter and you can imagine what that does

And it's not nearly over just because they lost the Dover case. I think the problem over there in the US is that evolution is very politicized. Creationists don't see their defeat as a triumph for science, but rather a triumph for liberalism over conservatism, atheism over religion. Political and religious battles are lost one day and won on another. Unless they dissociate science from

I think it was the time of the "Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District" trial, which happened in late 2005. That was like the pinnacle of the Intelligent Design movement. It was also when Paul Mirecki of the University of Kansas was attacked and the flying spaghetti monster was used as a parody of ID. Good thing that case was won!

And what preconceived conclusion might that be? The article above describes genetics and mentions little archaeology. It is supposed to be evidence of an Antolian origin for the Etruscans, which certainly doesn't rule out Troy, which is in Anatolia. I was wondering how you could rule this out. Note that the article doesn't say anything about 800 BCE, so your position is hardly the posit

If i understand your position correctly, you're saying the evidence supports an Eastern origin in the 8th century and not a Trojan origin, but how could you rule Troy out without placing dates on the genetics?

Nobody denies the existence of the orientalising period, but that's not the same as mass immigration. Herodotus specifically talks about Lydians, not Trojans or Phoenicians. Herodotus was well aware of both. A Phoenician origin is a non-starter. Scholars have long studied Phoenician migration routes and colonial influences. The Etruscans were clearly not Phoenicians in any sense. There are n

i 've always been quite curious about these competing hypotheses. As far as i'm aware, Etruscan culture goes right back to the first millenium BC and perhaps as far back as the 12th century. If they were immigrants, it would have to be early, perhaps as early as the Bronze Age. In the Bronze Age, Lydia didn't exist. The first Lydia was landlocked between Lycia, Ionia, Mysia and Phr

Thing with dvds is that i'm talking tens if not hundreds of gbs of data which would be hard and costly to backup, let alone twice.
