Hi all, this is a short question. I've just bought a brand new WD hard drive, and because i've never used them before i'm not too sure what kind of noises are normal hard drive noises. A few months ago i discovered something called the "click of death", so now i might be a bit over-sensitive to noises which might be normal. But who knows? WD is one of the largest manufact

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that fact can never be as impressive as fiction, let alone fiction passed off as fact. Why else did Dan Brown sell so many books? Why do directors take creative licences with historical movies? Why would there be historical fiction at all? Fiction always has a way of being more impressive. That's the definition of fiction. Can anyone not be taken by t

I would've thought that both boards involve weighing up evidence for alternative history. It's just that one's for all topics concerning Egypt and the other is for all non-egypt historical topics. The lines and circles would still be under Egypt. Indeed, i thought that was the point of splitting up the boards. Non-egypt topics would include the ANE including ancient Palestine, anci

eh...imdb is that horribly moderated movie board i frequent to talk about movies as well as documentaries. They're usually the first to have discussions on historical movies like Apocalypto, 300 etc. as well as the documentaries like The Lost Tomb of Jesus. I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than a place to kill time.
I do like the format though. You could set it so that a m

That's what i heard as well. As a Greenwich resident, i was horried when i first heard the news and imagined the whole ship including the mast aflame. It now looks like the damage is not beyond repair...

He was asking for information on classic OCT. The horizon programme covers GH and RB's work and most of the original OCT until Hancock's publication of "Underworld"....In any case, i posted the documentary so that people here could also identify how OCT has been updated since the programme was made...If the original ideas and the comments i posted about the 45 degree has been

I've posted this before, but it might be of interest to this thread..
The documentary of interest is "Atlantis Reborn" which also features Ed Krupp. It's widely known among Hancock enthusiasts as the Horizon scandal because of its skeptical stance. I know Hancock and Bauval also produced their own documentary which is mentioned in the Horizon programme and was apparentl

But in practice Joanne, most of us read books written by authorities and those associated with large institutions. I agree with what you're saying, but in the absence of the historical equivalent of the scientific process isn't the historical process really reading history written by authorities? I mean how would you buy your books on Amarna?

I thought OCT does rely on the 45 degree angle made with the horizon for a given date right? I don't think Hancock or Bauval would just use any constellation with three stars in a row....

Yeah these sites exist but only during truly dodgy searches (which i don't think i will go into detail) do they pop-up occasionally to ensnare people. I do get worried however when sites with technical and historical content also contain a large number of pop-ups and dodgy flashes...It becomes a problem when you're doing long drawn-out searches, browsing thousands of webpages without pr

Well, they built the pyramids for starters and it might be as simple as that. Not all cultures have that kind of monumental architecture of that scale, precision and antiquity. When you start having claims of aliens building, you've pretty much got alternative history in a nutshell. And it's also to do with the fact that Egypt was one of the fountainheads of both western and islamic civ

It's mostly numerology, which is not to say that it's invalid. I'm not much into it myself, but i think the basic idea is to deduce the extent of mathematical knowledge of the Egyptians, particularly the Old Kingdom Pyramid builders, where textual (historical) evdience is largely unavailble. Because they only have numbers, relations, proportions and some knowledge of Egyptian cultu

hmmm...saw this on the news today......so scientists have found it? A rocky planet with the liquid water?
and from space.com
Gliese 581 is a M2.5V red dwarf star. As with all extrasolar planets orbiting M dwarfs it's likely to be tidally locked, and habitability is subject to debate.

Well i pretty much read the book because of all the hype and discussions here....
It was actually a good easy read and had an interesting story. I did think though that it could have been so much better had he focused more on the characters and plot, and left out all the tedious and somewhat bizarre historical ideas and conspiracy theories....i mean was that bit about "The Lion King"

Yep, there are a lot of those companies advertised online, but apparently they vary in reliability and quality of service. I've read some horror stories including a guy who spent $600, didn't get what he wanted, and had to spend a further $2000.....that's the kind of money i'm looking to spend btw. The prices for data recovery are upwards of $600
