Hi Rich
All I can say is don't quote Budge as a source. Having said that I am probably one of Budge's last defenders, but only as a source of antiquated information. In other words Budge is a great source of information of what was prevailing in the world of Egyptology at the time. But it should also be kept in mind that Budge's thoughts, at the time, were not universally accep

But Sopdet is associated with the commencement of the yearly inundation and new year, so it's really easy to say Sopdet is associated with Sirius in the Pyramid Texts, much harder to make the same case for Spica.
It was in later periods, but those who have looked at the data find it lacking, MacNaughton when he looked at the dates for the Sothic cycle given by Censorinus found it l

Well, I think you would be going against all the evidence for Sopdet being associated with Sirius.

No sorry Joe i missed it, but as you point out undoubtably Isis and Sopdet were distinct at earlier periods, but i would question whether Sopdet even then was associate with Sirius, my consideration is that only in relatively later periods did the merged Isis-Sopdet become associate, because Osiris had become seen as Orion, and thus Isis-Sopdet becomes the companion.

Sirius is represented on the Denderah zodiac by the Hathor-Isis Sirius cow motif as far as i remember, but as i start on the thread opener, there can be no question that in the Late and Classical period Orion was being seen as Horus or Osiris, and Isis was the dog in the heat season companion...the question is how that arose and was it always thus.

The evidence exists that confirms the association of Sah and Orion.
Is anyone aware of the evidence or not?
Well we've had some discussion on this, and there's plenty of Late Period suggestions for Osiris/Sah=Orion and Isis Sopdet=Sirius, but i'm calling those into question in terms of the Old and Middle Kingdom, so if you can make a case for Sah being Orion at an earlier

There's no question that in later Egytpian history and into the classical period Orion was seen as Horus and Sah/Osiris, and that Isis was seen as his companion Sirius, i really do doubt that to have been the case during the Old and Middle Kingdoms, and have suggested why the later traditions arose.

Well it could well be about all three, the two jackals seem to concern themselves with a North/South axis and could be relevent to Canis Major/Anubis, in terms of opening the Northern axis, and Canis Minor/Ap-uat in terms of the Southern axis, and the fact those constellations seem to have suggested themselves as jackals/dogs is simply down to appearance...with timing of their movements also cri

Yes i think with Bootes one either see the legs bound together, in which case Arcturus is the base/foot/toe point, or one takes into acount the stars extending below as widely spaced legs (or maybe just big feet...). It's certainly very easy to see the mummiform Osiris resembles the constellation.
I want to have a look at Anubis in terms of opening the roads to the North, t

QuoteThe connection with Anubis and Sirius/Dog star is easily made, there is the noted 70 day period of invisibility which is considered to be associated with the 70 day preperation of the the mummiform Sah, and this work is carried out by Anubis, and thus the 70 day Sirius periodic is relevent to his cult. Is there any actual evidence of a link between the two?

By the 'Dog of Egypt' was one of Plato's favourite exclamations, probably with referance to Anubis, but i'd like to question whether this also would have refered to Sirius/Dog star.
