To Rick ...
"I'll just take a wild guess and say that Osiris's throne is actually symbolic of all of Egypt. You see the dark, furrowed or plowed fields of the 'black lands', the unimportant infertile red Egypt (symbolized by the box) sitting on top of a set of wiggly lines, that can only be symbolic for water. And when we think of water in Egypt what are we thinking of? That's right the Nile. Now what is coming out of the base of the throne? A lotus (lily?) the flower that is symbolic of rejuvenation. On the flower are the four children of Osiris. So you have Egypt, regeneration, and fertility all wrapped up in one beautifully symbolic picture. At least that's my interpretation of it. "
And Byrd ...
'm sure counterexamples to each can be found. I did see a photo of a pharaoh before Osiris in the Hall of Ma'at and the unification symbol was in the bottom corner of Osiris' chair.
Here is a blow up of the image [
imageshack.com] ... and I see 8 bars and 7 lines = 8/7ths or 1 and 1/7th or 7/8ths and I see what might be The Shadow Box which has this description ... The shadow was also representative to Egyptians of a figure of death, or servant of Anubis, and was depicted graphically as a small human figure painted completely black. Sometimes people (usually pharaohs) had a shadow box in which part of their Sheut was stored.
So I fail to see how it represents Egypt and I fail to see where you see the symbol of the unification. Byrd and Rick I honestly fail to see how you can not see the unification was between the spirit and the material ... and I also can not understand of all the ideas I have posted and the proof I have offered that all the myths of modern times including Biblical and occult symbolism can be traced back to Ancient Egypt. I just can't believe that after all I have posted your single comment in on The Shadow Box ... what of it's symbolism to modern times, to the black cat and to mysticism and witchcraft ... Perhaps a good example of being able to lead a horse to water but not being able to make it drink ... I have posted in great detail the steps from Egypt to all the modern myths and you comment on a box ?
Strange ....
