Karen ,
yes NASA know a bit about astronomy but the author doesn't.
did you check his terminology i.e. “declination of the earths axis “ ,you won't find Nasa referring to it . They will refer to obliquity at 23.45 degrees and also the declination of 23.45 at the solstcices but the 360-23.45 or 336.6 is not soemthing meaning ful and to descibe as a decliantion is wrong as declination only covers 180 degrees i.e. -90 to +90 . This is further confirmation that the author does not know what he talking about .
Did you check rhumb lines and thegreat circle ? and see how maintaining a line at the same bearing will not lead you to where you miht imagine if using GE ?
You can test it yourself .The simple test to show the nonsense of the long distance connection on a bearing is to got to a site like Stonehenge in GE , draw a line from the site due east /90 degrees for 2000 miles ,save the line then over the last 30 miles or so draw over the saved line with a new line following the bearing ,then check the bearing ,it won’t be anything 90 degrees ,more like 120 degrees .The line has shifted 30 degrees in 2000 miles . One thing can be sure, if someone has suggested that the trans global network of sites are connected and they give the bearing , it will prove to be wrong .
"At the culmination of the summer
> solstice at Machu Picchu's latitude the sun's
> azimuth at sunrise is 89.33⁰ "
The azimuth summer solstice sunrise at Machu Pichu isn't 89.334 , that is almost due east, which is much closer to the azimuth for sunrise at the equinoxes , three months either side of the solstice .
I think it is important the Cerne Abbas giant is a more than likely a modern creation ,it is being treated as an example of prehistoric alignments in realtion to the "ancient earth peoples " of the title . I claimed a one degree error,I didn't realise the author admitted to it too ,this means the line was 38 miles off .
Gunung Panang , I doubt very much is a man made pyramid but that is another story .
Yes a jape is like a joke in my lingo .
There are a lot more than hundred phallic glyphys and menhirs .Again ,the entire long distance alignment along a line of the same bearing doesn't work .Which the little experimnet will prove .
Did you check the Lobsang Rampa/Cyril Henry Hoskin link ? that will provide an indication of how the author has checked his sources and a few laughs as well .
Archaeoastronomers use GE ,certainly but archaeoastronmmers use it check on possible alignments which occur on the horizon ,not alignmnets over the horizon or thousands of miles away .A good gps can be accurate to about 50 centimetres if you can afford it .
I believe the joiner uppers are just palying about with GE ,there was an early versuion in the 1930's in Britain where people used the accurate OS maps to draw lines on between sites ,ancient and modern ,they "discovered " thousands of Ley lines , initially believing them to be evidence of the shortest routes between places routes (which is all very well on a map but rarely applicable to real life ).This evolved in the 60's to viewing the lines as examples of the "ancients" marking lines of "subtle enrgies " with monuments .
In all cases the "discoveries " can be shown to be expected by chance e.g. pick a couple of sites that are defintely not ancient and are obviously modern constructions with no ancient associations ,give me the co-ordinates and we'll see what ancient sites they line up with , quite coincidentally , around the globe .
