I am surprised that there is even a question of whether ancient structures were intentionally
aligned with astronomical phenomena. It is in evidence throughout the ancient world as detailed by Anthony Aveni in "Archaeoastronomy in the New World: American Primitive Astronomy"
Cambridge University press 1982, or EC Krupps "Echoes of the Ancient Skies" Oxford University Press 1994.
It wasn't only singular buildings that had an astronomical alignment, but entire building groups, plazas, roads and sacbees that had astronomical alignments. See Aimers and Rice on Egroup
buildings, or Aveni on Maya city planning, or Malvilles "Prehistoric Planning in the Southwest"
