The riddle of the sphinx has led people to relate it to the Leo constellation, the Anubis dog god, etc. Geodetically the sphinx looks to the East – although not exactly. If we were to extend it’s axis we wouldn’t find any significant ancient site with which it aligns. But maybe we are missing something. Yes, Giza was planned based on Crete mapping the Orion belt stars. Thus if we want to find out what the sphinx means we need to map Giza on to Crete and then see where the sphinx is looking.
But although the Cretan mountains map Orion very well, they are not identical to Giza. Therefore when two pyramids, preferably the central one and another one either to the North or South are mapped on to the mountains in Crete – the central one and one either to the East or the West, then the third pyramid does not match the third remaining mountain.
If we take into account than Crete aligns with Orion in either direction – direct or rotated(mount Dikte or mount Selena), this means that with this methodology we can have a total of four mappings. Actually we can also take the outer pyramids and omit the central one – this will yield another 2 mappings.
Below I have mapped the Menkaure and Kafre pyramids onto the two tallest mountains in Crete(practically equal in altitude) – Leyka Ore and Ide. Then I extend the axis of the sphinx to intersect the Kafre – Menakure center base line. This point is our observation point. As one can see in the following pics, the sphinx is looking at Abu Sibel. In the opposite direction the sphinx axis aligns perfectly with Delphi at Hellas. Abu Sibel is the Southern border of ancient Egypt to the less civilized African neighbors. Thus if we extend this direction we are led to the savanna – where the lion lives(Ethiopia). As we are told, Ethiopia is the place where Homo Sapiens originated. This general area is also the homeland of the first hominoids that eventually evolved into humans. Thus the animal(lion body) becomes human(human head) of the sphinx.

Regarding accuracy(I just want to state that I used Google East data for the sphinx):
Delphi error = 0.1 degrees
Abu Simbel error = 0.76 degrees
